With its thriving culture scene, it’s no surprise that Minneapolis-St. Paul is home to an array of world-class art museums, from the edgy Walker Art Center to the encyclopedic Minneapolis Institute of Art and many smaller stops in-between.

The deep and diverse MIA has one of the finest Asian collections in the United States, and current exhibits include a display of art by Native American women and a gallery focused on Egypt’s “Sunken Cities.”

Museum of Russian Art
5500 Stevens Av., Mpls.
Minnesotans Ray and Susan Johnson have acquired the largest private collection of Russian Realism outside Russia, and they’ve been displaying works for 15 years at the Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis. Current exhibits feature Soviet-era portrayals of the human body and the surrealist art of Sergei Isopov.

Walker Art Center

The Walker is one of the country’s foremost modern-art museums, with works by Jasper Johns, Merce Cunningham, Chuck Close and many others as well as performing arts programs. Don’t miss the free outdoor Sculpture Garden and its signature Spoon Bridge and Cherry for an iconic Minneapolis Instagram.
